THE WISE MAN
adapted from http://magazines.scholastic.com
Zadanie 1.1.
Once a wealthy man asked a wise old teacher to help his son give up his bad habits. The teacher took the wealthy man’s son for a walk through a garden. And so the boy did. He held the small plant between two fingers and pulled it out. Then they went through the same process with a slightly bigger plant. This time the youth had to pull a little harder, but the whole plant came out.
Zadanie 1.2.
“Now pull out that one,” said the old man pointing to a bush this time. “Now take this one out,” said the old man, stopping at a tree. The youth grabbed it and used all his strength to pull it out. But it would not even start to come out and after several tries he gave up. “It’s impossible,” said the boy, breathing hard.
Zadanie 1.3.
“So it is with bad habits. Then it is very difficult for a man to give them up,” answered the teacher. The boy remembered the lesson well.
