HOW RETAIL HAS CHANGED
Zadanie 2.1.
Today, a multi-screen world is changing both online and offline shopping. Steven Ramsway, an expert behind Google Shopping, explains how shops today should serve their customers better. According to him most consumers, especially the young ones, no longer see the distinction between online and offline shopping. To adapt to this new reality, smart business people should adjust the classic retailing truths of the past to suit present-day consumer habits .
Zadanie 2.2.
Mr Ramsway says that, for centuries, people came into stores with little knowledge about products and relied on a salesperson to advise them what to buy. This shift has brought a great opportunity for sellers. Those who use insights from the web have a greater chance to attract consumers online and offline.
Zadanie 2.3.
Retailing began when shopkeepers welcomed people from their neighbourhood and then learnt their customers’ needs and preferences. Nowadays, in our constantly connected world, when shoppers want to buy something, they expect to be able to use a map on their smartphones that they can click on to find their nearest store. Thus a modern phone is a map, a shopping list, a personal shopper, a salesperson and a product finder all in one.
Zadanie 2.4.
As Mr Ramsway notices, it is true that opinions carry more weight than ever. With YouTube and social networks, people are now sharing their opinions on products not just with a group of friends, but with millions of people. That is why smart retailers are seizing the opportunities that lie in the digital world and speak directly with the individuals, or communities of fans, who love their goods most. Such behaviours are the new methods of advertising merchandise. Thus buyers have to be constantly alert. However, Mr Ramsway indicates that when new technologies are used well, the customers simply see retailers as being very good at giving them exactly what they want.
