THE ALOFT HOTEL

Fragment tekstu do dwóch poniższych pytań.

The Aloft hotel is the only hotel in the U.S. where guests can adopt a dog. The dogs at the Aloft are part of an adoption program run by the hotel and Charlie’s Shelter. One of the dogs, wearing an “Adopt Me” jacket, greets visitors when they check in. Some other dogs, wearing similar jackets, are ready to accompany guests regularly if only the visitors agree. When we asked Christine Kavanagh, the Aloft’s director of sales if they were thinking of offering other animals for adoption, she said they would wait.

The hotel opened in 2014 and has not received any complaints about dogs making a mess, causing allergies or attacking people. The adoptable dogs have some space at the registration desk and in some employee areas. They can’t stay in guest rooms at night. “After one negative opinion about the sign Dogs are not allowed in our restaurant, we changed the rules. If they are well-behaved, they can go with visitors even there. There’ve been no other complaints,” Kavanagh said.

There are many examples of successful adoptions. Jane Trantham and her husband adopted a one-year-old Shih Tzu named Jackson. “We fell in love with him when we checked in. He ran out from behind the reception desk, pushing a small ball with his nose,” Jane said. “Every time we went somewhere, one of us said, Let’s go back to the hotel and see Jackson. We talked and talked and finally, on our fourth stay, we adopted him.”

Caren Ferris adopted a 4-year-old terrier named Ginger. Caren said: “When I was checking out, Ginger sat up, looked me in the eye and was very sad. I felt like crying. I asked at the reception desk if I needed to consult the manager to adopt her. I was told that all I needed to do was call Charlie’s Shelter. I paid some fees, filled in the adoption papers and waited to be accepted as a future owner. After a home visit by someone from the shelter I was able to take Ginger home.”

For the dogs’ benefit, Charlie’s Shelter has tough adoption standards, but the restrictions and formalities meet with understanding. Fourteen dogs have found homes since the program started in July. Even if you are not thinking about adopting a dog, the hotel, which is doing its best to help animals, is worth a visit. The opinions about the Aloft are enthusiastic, so why don’t you spend a few days there and support its good work?
